| On the 30th of October, 2002, the 36th Tokyo Motor Show commenced.
Since 1999, the Show has alternately featured passenger cars / motorcycles and
commercial vehicles. This year's Show is thus dedicated to the latter. The Mazda
Booth, created according to its well-known "Zoom-Zoom" concept, exhibits
a number of unique, surprising and yet practical ideas in the form of commercial
and walfare vehicles. The concept study models for business-mobiles and ecological
vehicles may not be familiar to the visitors but must look attractive and fresh
to their eyes. Walfare vehicles, designed around the users, exploit the best of
operational ease. The number and variety of the exhibitions are more than our
expectations! |

In the following sections, the overview of the Show as well as the major features
at the Mazda Booth will be described in detail. This will be an interesting guideline
for those have visited there and those planning to go to the site very soon. The
information vividly given below will take you to a sample live tour to the Mazda
exhibitions and the whole site. |

Day One of the Commercial Vehicle Motor Show. I was
astonished before entering into the site. At the gates, there were long queues
of visitors even on a week day. The Mazda Booth, our main target of interest,
is located in the West Hall that offers the easiest access for those came to Makuhari
Messe whereas it is one of the fartherst exhibitions for train users. The Booth
is identified by robust white pillars with shinning sliver corporate logo marks.
The walls with spectacular arch design carry a number of pictures that shows the
automotive exhilaration alive. Visitors, including myself, are taken into the
world of wonders because of a mysterious effect of pictures combining innovations
with tradition, encouraging us to think about the future and, at the same time,
reminding us of good old days. Inside the walls, our main hosts, the vehicles
and concept cars, awaits us. For me, they looked like a bit nervous at the very
beginning of the opening day. At the reception, charming ladies in silver costumes
and with lovely similes hand the brochure onto the visitors. The one step more
into the site, the more excited we get! |

Throughout the Motor Show week, Mazda organizes a
"fun factor" show at every 45 minutes. With the familiar jaunty "zoom-zoom-zoom"
beat as BGM, three cheerful navigators came to the center of the stage. They explain,
with attractive gestures and performances, the technical details of the four concept
cars looming at the central focus of the Booth. For technololgy bugs, my recommendation
is the Titan Dash Clean Diesel Hybrid. The large mirror placed underneath the
floor reflects the bottom of the hybrid power unit for a better exhibiting effect.
Some of the visitors, who may not be able to resist the temptation of the new
technoloogy, kneeled down to attempt to locate the secretes of the engine directly.
Anyway, you cannot miss the show with a lot of information and fun! |
